Andy, a Silver Spring native, played football, lacrosse, and swam for Montgomery Blair High School. He graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio where he majored in political science with a focus on international relations and Russian studies and was captain of the Wooster Men’s Lacrosse team. A long time gym rat, Andy discovered CrossFit in 2011 and has been hooked to the intense, competitive, and communal nature since.
How had CrossFit impacted your life?
As a naturally competitive person I worried how I would get my fix after finishing collegiate athletics. When I found CrossFit I discovered the answer. While still playing lacrosse, CrossFit was the core of my workout programing helping to maximize my athletic potential physically and more importantly, it improved my mental toughness. CrossFit DoneRight has given me the opportunity to share my passion about fitness in a great communal environment.
What’s your favorite and least favorite workout?
Favorite: Anything with heavy cleans
Least: The Sumo Deadlift High Pull portion of Fight Gone Bad
What do you do besides CrossFit?
Outside of the gym I help coach lacrosse at Montgomery Blair, spend as much time as I can in the woods behind where I live, learn unimportant facts, and criticize obscure movies.
Advice for Athletes New to CrossFit
Like Yogi Berra said, “90% of the game is half mental” a strong mind is essential to a strong body.
