I was talking to one of my CFDR Biggest Loser Challenge team members earlier this morning.  She was a little worried because she saw a 2 pound gain on the scale over the last couple of days.  This got me thinking about how unreliable the scale is as a metric, especially on a day-to-day basis.

Your weight can fluctuate up or down by as much as 5 pounds a day depending on:

  • Lack of sleep
  • Hormonal changes
  • Water retention
  • Constipation
  • The timing of eating your meals
  • Salt intake

Realize though, the gains and/or losses you see on the scale ARE NOT body fat related.

I recommend you not get in the habit of weighing yourself on a daily basis, as you will end up driving yourself crazy and eventually quitting.

Your motto needs to be “focus on the process”, whatever that process is (if you’re in the Challenge, it’s the process your coach gave you).
