Today, February 4th marks my six year CrossFit anniversary. I realized the other day, that means I have been crossfiting for a fifth of my life. And its been quite the ride. I have called three different boxes home, met many great people who I feel lucky to call my friends, met my husband, and improved my athleticism about 4,000%.
When I first started CrossFit I could do nothing. It took my six months to get my first pull-up, a year to get my first ring dip, a little over two years to get my first muscle-up, and I think I finally figured out how to do an air squat last week. My first three years, I got a PR almost every time I touched a barbell – I had no where to go but up. I often say I hit my CrossFit peak about three years ago. However, since joining CFDR I have added 5 lbs to my clean, hit 300# on my deadlift, and finally figured out how to string muscle-ups together.
And while doing all this, I have had a great time. My very first CrossFit t-shirt said “It doesn’t have to be fun to be fun” across the back. Six years later I couldn’t agree more with that saying. The most important thing for me, and the reason I come in almost every day, is that I think CrossFit is so fun. Sure sometimes it sucks – but when it sucks, isn’t it that much more fun? A lot of what makes it so fun is all the great people that come through the door of the box every day. Every single member at CFDR makes this place such an awesome community – I am sometimes all over the place with what class time I go to (I have a weird schedule) and I know no matter what class I go to the members will always be supportive, encouraging, and just a really good time.
The one piece of advice I have, is keep showing up. We all have bad days, bad weeks, heck even bad months, but keep coming back, I promise you will get “it” eventually (whatever “it” may be).
