Causes of Childhood Obesity

Hooray, school is back in session!!! Time to help our kids eat healthier this year. Maybe us adults should pack our lunches too. I have seen some great posts on Facebook from my CrossFitting friends suggesting ways to have healthier lunches.

Get a cool lunch box. Usually something with compartments:

I always have the following foods around for the girls to pack lunches:

  • Cut Veggies
  • Sugar Free Fruit (e.g. No Sugar Added Applesauce, Chopped Pears)
  • Fruit (apples, oranges, whatever is in season)
  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Lara Bars and Kind Bars
  • Lettuce to Make Sandwiches
  • Pre-made Salads

Things to watch out for:

  • Some lunchmeat is filled with sugar, read the label and avoid “honey” hams
  • Kids like sweets, teach moderation with a Hershey kiss or two instead of Twinkies or Ho Hos
  • Ease your kids into it if this is new, suggest taking one piece of fruit every day and making sure they eat it
  • Sweet potato and veggie chips are a great chip substitute
