It can be confusing when you back hurts after heavy deadlifts and a coach tells you that your hamstrings must be tight. You heard me, your hamstrings. Why does it hurt in our back? Our body is a complex set of interconnected tendons and muscles. A tightness in one area can manifest in pain somewhere else. If you treat the area that is hurting (e.g. the back), you may never fully resolve the problem without addressing the source. Here are a couple of common causes of pain. A good physical therapist can help you track down the source of pain, so don’t let it go untreated.
