From the New York Times: What’s the Best Exercise?
Ask a dozen physiologists which exercise is best, and you’ll get a dozen wildly divergent replies. “Trying to choose” a single best exercise is “like trying to condense the entire field” of exercise science, said Martin Gibala, the chairman of the department of kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
In the article, the answers ranged from brisk walking (sorry folks, but unless you’ve been bed ridden for several weeks, walking isn’t exercise) to squats to burpees. I think the answer really depends on what your actually goal is and more importantly, how you do that exercise. The squat is great, but the overhead squat is even better. A few sets of 10 is ok, but Tabata intervals are better. Of course, if you trying to train as many of the 10 element of fitness as you can in a single exercise, then the Snatch has no competitor.
